South Africa : Land, Health and Development

October 13, 2009 - October 25, 2009

Join Global Exchange on this in-depth tour that will focus on:

  • The continuous current land debate
  • HIV/AIDS crisis
  • the pitfalls of neo-liberal development
  • how grassroots communities are responding to these issues.

We will visit with women's groups, youth groups, government officials, and activists fighting the AIDS pandemic. Most importantly, we will learn how poverty and the unequal nature of apartheid, fueled by the colonial era and globalization, have contributed to the problems Southern Africa faces today. The idea is to come away from this experience with a keen sense of the issues affecting South Africa today, the options for development and the people at grassroots level who are creating change.
