Membership and Outreach Coordinator
Global Exchange, a nonprofit human rights organization based in San Francisco, is seeking a seasoned Membership and Outreach Coordinator to join our fundraising team. This position reports to the Director of Development, and is supported by the Development Assistant and the Database Administrator. The Membership and Outreach Coordinator is the direct supervisor of the Database Administrator.

Our programs include Reality Tours to both U.S. and international destinations; a Fair Trade program (including several retail stores); a Public Education program producing events, such as the Green Festival, articles and publications. Our campaigns are designed to influence US policy, both corporate and governmental, around issues such as trade policy and immigration, child labor, democracy, peace, freedom from oil and the new local green economy.

Job Requirements:

  • 1+ years fundraising (including membership) experience; staff management and leadership
  • Experience developing fundraising materials -- direct mail and appeal copy experience a must;
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills;
  • Database management experience and data analysis required
  • Highly motivated, creative and organized; detail-oriented
  • Ability to take initiative; work independently as well as able to work as part of a team.
  • Flexibility; ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Dedicated interest in human rights and social justice work;
  • Some traveled required.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Manages all aspects of our membership program raising $500,000;
  • Leads the direct mail program: develops quarterly appeals for both members and major donors; manages relationship with our direct mail consultants including data analysis and reporting;
  • Oversees monthly sustainer program -- develops appropriate cultivation materials and manages correspondence;
  • Manages annual phone bank;
  • Manages newsletter content for department;
  • Development of membership and outreach materials and leads/coordinates organizational membership and outreach efforts.
  • Works with Communications Team to develop member-savvy campaign materials, online outreach and social networking opportunities to increase online giving;
  • Develops and coordinates organization's membership events including Open House, major tabling events (Green Festival, parties, and special events)
  • Directly supervises Database Administrator and seasonal short-term supervisory duties.
  • Develops and Maintains computer and hard file systems for all membership activities
  • Manages database reporting and analysis: provides cost and income projections and effectiveness analysis for all membership activities.
  • Works with IT and Director of Development to develop and implement new online giving program.
  • Other duties as assigned

Youth Engagement Coordinator – Environmental Service Learning Initiative (ESLI)
Global Exchange seeks one Community Engagement Coordinator for the Environmental Service Learning Initiative (ESLI). The ESLI is a teacher professional development, youth leadership, environmental awareness and service-learning program. ESLI staff works with teachers in three ways: Providing professional development, facilitating a teacher learning community with other teachers and working directly in the classroom co-teaching with teachers. ESLI staff work with students in 3 ways: facilitating youth leadership body on campus, in class teaching and providing city-wide events for youth including a city wide youth board. ESLI combines environmental awareness and cultural relevancy with classroom curriculum (CA state standards) for an experience that is empowering for students and teachers. Students end the school year with a project of their choice led by them with guidance from their teacher and ESLI staff. ESLI is a collaboration of two lead agencies: Community Educational Services and Global Exchange. The staff hired for these positions will be employed through Community Educational Services.

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Environmental Service Learning Program Director, the Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for: cohesive school-partnered programming at a specific site. Responsibilities include: co leading the ESLI Youth Advisory board and all administrative responsibilities that occur for the board, planning (with the Youth Advisory Board) all program events and contests including logistics, media (press releases) and day of facilitation, oversee the Mini Grants program and communicating regularly with media consultant.

Responsibilities:

  • Management of community engagement budget
  • Support school staff in the planning and implementation of school site events
  • Lead Youth Advisory Board including supporting their ESL project (SF Eco Fest)
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Contribute to monthly funder reports
  • Produce the ESLI quarterly newsletter (3-August, January, May)
  • Document events including pictures and write ups
  • Participate in the creation, implementation and refining of program goals
  • Plan and implement all city wide program events (4-Youth Unity Tent, Teachers Conference, Eco Fest, Teacher's Reception)
  • Promote/encourage student participation in city wide events
  • Participate in ESLI partner events
  • Participate in Summer Program and Professional Development Institute
  • Assist in grant management
  • Maintain program files and manage (with the help of the budget manager) GX program budget
  • Create Requests For Proposals (RFP's) for teachers that wish to apply for mini grants
  • Coordinate mini-grant process (including outreach, documentation, oversight of budget, reporting, and training and technical assistance)
  • Create and maintain selection criteria for mini grants in collaboration with leadership team members
  • Connect grantees to environmental service learning resources
  • Communicate with web designers for the maintenance of the web presence
  • Order supplies for GX staff
  • Order business cards and letterhead
  • Up keep program soundtrack CD's
  • Assist in evaluation process
  • Document learning and best practices
Qualifications for successful employment:
  • Minimum BASELINE understanding of environmental issues
  • Experience working with youth
  • Experience working with historically disenfranchised groups
  • Energetic and hands-on in developing and implementing new programming through multiple collaborations; a creative and critical thinker with the ability to act quickly and produce or facilitate quality results. Persistent and determined in the pursuit of program quality and excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability in building relationships and working effectively with various stakeholders
  • Track record as an effective and timely communicator; skilled in writing, speaking and presenting
  • Strong commitment to youth and youth development principles
  • Strong commitment to social and environmental justice and social change in practice
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Criminal Background Clearance from the Department of Justice and TB-tested

Salary:$42,000 - $45,000 FTE DOE + benefits
